“My mission is, after all, to glorify until my last breath everything God has made, and this people, and my homeland that inspires me more than anything else.”

Vasks and Trio Palladio

Peteris Vasks’ music speaks so personally, yet touches people of many different cultures. For Latvians, it often epitomises a “Latvian” sound, reflecting our nature and worldview with deep sensitivity.

Each of us has a long-standing relationship with Vasks’ music through his solo and concertante works, and as a trio, his music has been with us ever since our very first programme. We have been privileged to not only open the First Festival of Vasks music in Cēsis (2018), but also be the first to read and record his new arrangement of The Lonely Angel for piano trio. Thus, our debut album will contain two world premiere recordings — this recent version of The Lonely Angel, as well as Plainscapes for piano trio, a work renowned worldwide in its choral version. The third work on this disc, Episodi e canto perpetuo, has been performed and recorded many times since its inception in 1985. For us, playing this work is an experience of almost palpable progress from abyss into light, a journey of primeval spirituality.

And Vasks would be the first to admit that with his music, he points to Something, Someone above and beyond human boundaries, to the Source of all beauty, to the Love that inspires all human loves. This is why we believe this music must be shared with everyone regardless of their national or other affiliation. And to this end we aspire with our new album.
